A prompt template is a reusable prompt that contains placeholders (variables) filled in at request time. Templates let one prompt serve many inputs while staying reviewable and versioned. In PML, variables are declared in frontmatter and substituted into the prompt body.

Why it matters

Templates separate the reusable prompt from the per-request data, so one reviewed prompt can serve thousands of inputs without copy-paste drift.

In Infere

In PML, variables are declared in frontmatter and substituted into the prompt body at request time. That keeps the prompt itself versioned while the values stay dynamic.

Example

"Hello {{name}}, your order {{order_id}} ships on {{date}}." bound to name, order_id, and date at runtime.
